When choosing foods and products for yourself and family, you must know there is a difference between the ones that are called organic, certified organic, natural, all natural, etc.  There are particular steps to insure that providers follow if they plan to use the “certified organic” label.

Producers who grow sections of organic foods must maintain a border between certified organic and those foods that are not grown to meet the same standards.

Certified organic foods production must include records of the seed providers, information about whether the farmer’s fields producing the organic food have been free of synthetic and chemical fertilizers for a particular number of years, and the entire food production chain right up to selling the food to the retailers.  Unfortunately, foods that are classified as organic in one country might not be held to the same standards as another.

Synthetic or sewer sludge as well as chemical fertilizers violate the certification process and cannot be called “organic”.  In fact, if even one part of the product chain cannot meet the stringent standards, then that food product is not allowed to use the “certified organic” label.

Personal care products, on the other hand, is a market that takes full advantage of consumers by using labels that state the product to be “organic” or “made with organic ingredients”.  These same producers then put petrochemicals into the cleansing creams and moisturizers.

Retailers know that consumers are willing to pay extra for the “organic” labels, so consumers who bring this information to the attention of retailers could prove to be a major force for change in labeling.  Organic foods and personal products should meet truthful and responsible standards or be dropped from the store shelves.
